MONCKTON, Captain C. A. W.

Charles Monckton's works on New Guinea and its inhabitants are probably among the most read books on the subject. He discusses the islanders, their dress, homes, villages and travels around the territory during his time there from about 1897 to 1907. He finally resigned his post in protest at having been officially criticized for his extremely harsh and brutal methods in keeping order.
