Plenck (1735-1807), an Austrian doctor and botanist, compiled the enormously successful "surgical pharmacy" which is the second book in this volume. It was republished three times in Latin, Italian, Spanish, German, French and Dutch (this is Latin). A teacher in both Basel and Vienna, he was also one of the first to classify skin diseases, making him the father of modern dermatology.
