Susanna Moodie (1803-1885) wrote extensively about her experiences as a settler in Canada to let those back in Britain know what they were getting into when moving to the colonies. She wrote of the trials and tribulations she found in Canada, rather than the advantages to be had. First appearing in Britain in 1852, this first Canadian edition did not appear until nearly 20 years later.
