By Major James Bell, (East York Militia). The Historical and Literary Tables Originally Founded on the German of the Late History-Professor and Prussian Regency-Councillor G. G. Bredow; But Considerably Enlarged and Variously Altered, Especially in the Britannic, the Asian, and the American Columns: and the Table of Painters Mainly Derived from the Private French Notes of Sir Matthew Van Bree." The original by Bsch appeared under title "Grundriss einer Geschichte der merkwrdigsten Welthndel neuerer Zeit", Published in Hamburg, 1781. It was afterwards continued to 1796 by the author and continued to 1810 by Bredow.Originally published in English as "Compendious view of universal history and literature, in a series of tables." In the fourth English edition van Bre provided the table of painters. According to the preface this is the First Edition with variegated type and the second edition of the coloured series.

    50 cm. 15 p. + 48 leaves of plates with colour tables. Originally half leather with cloth boards, gold impressing. Gold floral pattern endpapers. Spine covered in beige cloth, corners and edges worn, hole in lower front board. Front hinge cracking internally. Some spotting and thumbing.
