Thomas Henry (Tom) Wintringham was a soldier, military historian, journalist, poet, politician, and author who became an important figure in the formation of Britain's Home Guard during the Second World War. Having fought in the Spanish Civil War, he became an expert in guerilla warfare, and set up a school teaching such tactics at Osterley Park, west of central London.
