The Forge is one of the most famous nightclubs in Miami Beach, first opening in the 1920s. Over the years, the hot spot attracted a variety of celebs and organized crime figures. This undated wine list appears to have been printed in the late 1970s, perhaps around 1977 when Meyer Lansky's stepson Richard Schwartz was charged with the murder of a drinking companion in the bar. The list includes hundreds of bottles - Champagnes, Bordeaux, Beaujolais, Great American dinner wines, and bottles from Israel, Argentina, Japan, Romania, and so on. In 1992 The Forge's extensive wine collection was severely damaged by Hurricane Andrew, leading to an extended legal battle between the restaurant and its insurer over the value (they settled in 1997 for a payment of over $2 million). Read over this list and imagine yourself back in the ornate interior of the '70s, ordering a bottle of Weibel Brut, and ignoring the mysterious stranger in the corner smoking a cigar beneath his fedora.
