Born in Apohaqui, Kings County, New Brunswick, he became editor of Saint John's Telegraph-Journal and Evening Times Globe. Well-known for his humanitarian and political activities, he championed Maritime rights and worked on behalf of the Saint John Board of Trade. He became a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1935. He published a number of short storied in the Chambers Journal and the Canadian Courier. He was the author of several poetry chapbooks, including A Heart-Broken Coroner and Other Wonders (with Harry Albro' Woodworth), Sir John Thompson, and Transvaal Souvenir.
