BELDING, A. M.
Albert Martin Belding (1859-1939) was a Canadian poet, journalist, and writer. Born in Apohaqui, Kings County, New Brunswick, he became editor of Saint John's Telegraph-Journal and Evening Times Globe. Well-known for his humanitarian and political activities, he championed Maritime rights and worked on behalf of the Saint John Board of Trade. He became a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1935. He published a number of short storied in the Chambers Journal and the Canadian Courier. He was the author of several poetry chapbooks, including A Heart-Broken Coroner and Other Wonders (with Harry Albro' Woodworth), Sir John Thompson, and Transvaal Souvenir. Of most intrest here is the untitled manuscript that begins "The glory of the red man has passed away. His tomahawk rusts on the wigwam wall..." etc.
