Hall's travels in Scotland took him to a wide variety of locations besides the outer islands. He gives the reader is impressions of Edinburgh, Stirling, St. Andrews, Perth, Dundee, Aberdeen, Banff, Inverness, and a host of lesser known spots. Former owner was Lt.-Col. Hugh Rigg of Crossrigg Hall, Cumbria, who made a fortune as an East India trader.
